The Bible In Voice and Verse
Celebrating the impact of the Bible in words and music.
As the handbook for Christian worship and instruction, the Bible has also inspired vast amounts of music, in hymns, anthems, spirituals and oratorios.
Actor Lance Pierson recites key passages from the Bible interspersed with performances of famous pieces of music which those words inspired,
performed by soprano Belinda Yates and pianist Heather Chamberlain. The music includes excerpts from Haydn's ‘Creation’, Handel's ‘Messiah’ and
SS Wesley's ‘Blessed be the God and Father' amongst many others.
The trio performed “The Bible in Voice and Verse” seventy four times across the UK in 2011, whilst celebrating the 400th Anniversary of The King James Authorized Version. It is one of the treasures of the English language and has left its mark on our daily speech in many turns of phrase we use, perhaps without knowing where they come from. The Trio received much acclaim including rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe and kind words from churches across the country.
Lance is an experienced Bible performer and is familiar with many of the different translations that have been produced. The concert is therefore available to be adapted to the translation of your choosing.
